Giving fairly

Giving lasting joy

A carefully purchased, fair gift, which is also packaged in an environmentally friendly way, not only brings great joy, but can also introduce the recipient to the topic of sustainability in an unobtrusive way.

The pre-Christmas period is just around the corner and with it begins a real marathon for many: presents are bought and the wrapping frenzy is just around the corner. In a hurry, we sometimes forget how the environment suffers because of our desire to make our loved ones happy.

Less is more – from the selection to the gift wrapping. Because sustainability can be applied to all areas of life.

In this way, we can do something good for our loved ones, ourselves and our environment. But where do you start? Which gifts are sustainable and what does environmentally friendly packaging look like? To make the search for sustainable gifts not too difficult, we have put together a few helpful tips in our Fair Gift Guide:

Fair Gift Guide: Sustainable gift ideas

Tip 1

Take your time

Start researching suitable gifts early and take your time. Avoid stress purchases at all costs. The idea of sustainability is already evident in this step - because the more you think about the "sense" or "nonsense" of a gift idea, the higher the probability that the recipient will receive long-term and therefore sustainable joy. Don't give anything "useless".

How about, for example, little helpers for caring for your favorite items that you often wear?

Tip 2

Sustainable accessories

If you want to give something fashionable as a gift, it is often difficult to find exactly the right color, size, or even the right taste for the person you are giving it to. Fashionable and timeless accessories such as a scarf, hat or headband are a great alternative - of course fairly produced and in organic quality.

Tip 3

sharing is caring

A great way to make others happy: invest a sum for a good cause in the name of the recipient. For example, support a relief organization or promote environmental protection with a donation. Plant trees or, together with an environmental protection organization, give the gift of sponsorship for natural flower meadows or rainforest areas.

Tip 4

Print-at-home vouchers

The "golden gift rule": a voucher. If nothing else works and you have no other ideas, look for a sustainable label or company and give your loved ones a gift voucher. That way, the recipients can decide for themselves what suits them best and both sides are happy.

Tip 5

Environmentally friendly packaging

There are many really nice alternatives to conventional wrapping paper. Why not try using newspaper, baking paper or wrapping paper that you have saved and decorate with a pretty ribbon, fir branches and dried orange slices, for example. Or use old fabric scraps or napkins that the recipient can reuse. If you don't want to do without the wrapping paper look, look for environmentally friendly recycled wrapping paper when shopping - preferably with a "Blue Angel" seal. This seal confirms that the paper is made from 100% recycled paper and that no new trees had to be felled for it. If possible, wrap the gift in such a way that it does not have to be torn up when unwrapping and the recipient can reuse it.
