Making of the new collection
Behind the Scenes
We'll take you behind the scenes. The development and creation of the curated capsule collection is a process that takes about half a year. From the first inspirations that are collected to the development of silhouettes and sketches that are created by the LANIUS creative team around designer Christian Rühl. Then the search for suitable material qualities, lots of emails, phone calls, video calls and of course: the meetings with Eva Padberg. One such appointment, which was awaited with much anticipation and excitement, was the fitting of the freshly arrived sample pieces in the LANIUS showroom in Cologne.
We talk to our three main actors Eva Padberg, Claudia Lanius and Christian Rühl about challenges, surprises and expectations during the making of the new capsule collection.

Christian, together with the LANIUS creative team you developed the design direction of the new ESSENTIALS capsule. What was the focus?
For the ESSENTIALS, it is essential that every item of clothing is a real favorite. For us, these are the classics, such as the shirt blouse, jeans, coat, shirt... Our design focus was on reduced modernity, natural materials and combinability. Timeless design with a fashionable twist. Unfussy, but with a feel-good factor.
Eva, you have curated the 13 styles. Is there an ESSENTIAL among them that is particularly
like?
My favorite is the blue and white striped oversized shirt. The colors and stripes are pure summer for me and like all the pieces, it is so versatile. This shirt is a must-have in any summer wardrobe.

Eva, did you want a particular look beforehand? Or was there a must-have item that you couldn't do without in your capsule?
Since it's the summer version of our capsule, I wanted a dress. One that you can style casually during the day or in the evening. The dark blue silk dress is exactly that. It's wide and airy, the fabric flows and has a classy but relaxed look. It works just as well with sneakers or sandals as it does with high heels.
Claudia, you are the initiator behind the joint capsule collection with Eva. Did you start the collaboration with certain expectations and if so: were they fulfilled?
My expectations have been completely fulfilled to date. Eva Padberg gives our ESSENTIALS and the brand a great face. She is simply an absolutely authentic woman who is in the prime of life and has many interests that she combines. This inspires me as a person. The collaboration simply feels good to me and I am very happy that we have now made the first stores happy with it. I also see great potential here with regard to the large department stores: the story behind the favorite pieces and the capsule is easy to understand and makes sustainability a breeze to adopt.

Claudia, the shoot took place in Berlin this time - in contrast to the shoot for the first capsule, which was photographed in the Uckermark. What made you decide to shoot in the big city this time?
With Berlin, we chose an urban setting that also plays a role in Eva's life, as she lived in Berlin for many years. The city, with its contrasts between old buildings and new, modern buildings, also authentically reflects the living space in which we move.
Eva and Claudia, through the continuation of LANIUS ESSENTIALS you have gotten to know each other better. Can you each describe in three words how you feel about the collaboration:
Eva: Warm, clear, honest.
Claudia: Enriching, inspiring, fulfilling.
